RFId technology can be “active technology” or “passive technology”.
Active technology is based on a battery equipped transponder supporting independent data transmission; Passive technology is based on an inert transponder supporting data transmission only when activated by an external electromagnetic field generated by a reader.
Both technologies support different applications and usually they can not be positioned alternatively for a specific solution: nowadays market attention is mainly focused on passive technology due to large applications possibilities and due to cheaper costs.
